Dramatic landscape in a remote corner of the World

The remote snow capped peaks of Uvs province are the setting for a truly wild and adventurous trek in Western Mongolia, where you will be delighted by the unspoiled beauty of this vast and varied country.

Unrivalled scenery, outstanding hiking trails

Sometimes it is possible to trek for a whole day, or even more than a day, without meeting anyone else. Local families live in the high valleys only during the summer months and during the winter they move lower to be closer to the village.

Mongolia - an inspiring destination for everyone

The views that you may see whilst trekking in Mongolia are beautiful, unusual and probably enjoyed by few other people. We hike in remote parts of the country rarly visited by foreign tourists.

Discover a different world - the natural beauty of Mongolia

High up in the mountains of the Uvs region of Mongolia, lie beautiful freshwater lakes, ancient glaciers and rare plants. Even the local people do not travel here often - only occasionaly in the summer months when moving their location.

There's no place like Mongolia for magnificent trekking adventures

All our guided tours will take you to some of the most remote parts of Mongolia and will give you opportunities to meet the local people and to experience their fascinating nomadic lifestyle.

Dates : 7 - 18 July 2019 | Size : min 4 people | Type : 8 - Day Trek
Location : Western Mongolia | Total Duration : 12 Days | Price : $3695/pp

Uvs province in the far north west of Mongolia is a spectacular region encompassing permanently snow-capped mountains, glaciers, torrential rivers, salt-water and freshwater lakes, sand dunes and a fantastic variety of animals and plants. The local people use camels as well as horses as working animals, and we will be accompanied by local guides on horseback with their camels which carry all the luggage and equipment. Our 8-day trek to Mount Kharkhiraa and Mount Turgen covers a distance of approximately 120km and includes two high passes at altitudes of 2930 metres and 2944 metres.

  • View of Mount Kharkhiraa and Blue Lake from Uliastai Pass
  • 8th Century "Stone Men" sculptures and ancient Khurgan Graves
  • Mount Kharkhiraa glacier and remote plateau
  • Dramatic descent from Yamaatiin Pass down to the Yamaatiin valley

A good level of fitness is required, although the hike is not extremely strenuous even at the highest altitudes. There are several fast river crossings, for which we get a lift on horseback. The weather is unpredictable in the mountains and you must be prepared for everything, including snow, even though it is summer. Towards the end of the trek, as we get closer to the border with Kazakhstan, the people are Kazakh rather than Mongolian.
