Family Adventure (29 July - 7 Aug 2010 only Euros € 895)

Bring the kids to Mongolia next summer. It will be a fine adventure for the whole family with 10 days of fun and fascinating experiences for people of any age. We travel by jeep to Arkhangai province in Central Mongolia where Genghis Khan established the capital of the great Mongol Empire in the thirteenth century. We travel through countryside which varies from steppe to mountain to desert and forest. Everyone will get a chance to ride horses, camels and even a yak and cart, as the local people do. Small children will be taken care of and can ride together with a grown-up.

You will experience traditional Mongolian hospitality and spend time with a nomadic family, perhaps watching the horses being milked or playing with their children. At the hot springs you can enjoy bathing in outdoor pools on the edge of the forest and near the town of Kharkhorin you will see monks of all ages performing Buddhist rituals in the ancient temples of Erdene Zuu monastery.  Don’t be surprised to see the young monks flicking paper or dried rice when they should be chanting – children are children everywhere.

As well as an adult guide and interpreter, the children will have their own personal guide. Sarantoya (age 14) speaks fluent Mongolian and English and has been brought up in two cultures. She will show you all the best bits of this wonderful country and will ensure that your holiday is something very special.

  Our Tour Grading

This cultural holiday in Mongolia is suitable for people of any fitness or ability, as you can choose when or if you go walking every day. In between the festival, visiting the monastery and hot springs, there will be time to do some hiking in the surrounding area. Mongolian Wrestling...

Mongolian wrestlers ©HikeMongoliaWrestling is one of the three manly sports taking place during the annual Naadam festival. Champions are national heroes and are given the title of "falcon", "elephant", "lion" or "Titan" according to how many rounds they win. There are no weight categories, nor time restrictions, and several pairs of wrestlers Mongolian Wrestler Yokozuna Asashoryu ©HikeMongoliacompete at the same time. Winners makes peace with their loser, then parade around a flag on a pedestal, imitating a garuda bird. Mongolian wrestling is not unlike Japanese sumo wrestling, and indeed several Mongolians have reached the highest level in sumo.
